How does MusicTrend calculate how "on-trend" my catalog is?

On MusicTrend's Catalog Insights dashboard, you've probably seen the chart that indicates how "on-trend" your catalog is in certain hot or trending genres/categories. It looks like this:

This chart gives you a rating of 0-100% in each musical category (100 being the best), which has probably made you ponder, "where the heck does this number come from and how can I influence it?".

How it is calculated?

The figure is actually calculated using a few factors. Here they are in order of influence on the rating:

1.. Track Ratings: Each track in your catalog has a 1-5 star rating that you assign. These are your own honest assessment of how strong and commercially-ready your tracks are.

2. Genre Mix: The percent of your catalog that is in that genre vs., the percent of licensing opportunities for that genre. This is meant to factor in whether your catalog's composition matches what is going on in the marketplace. ie: if 20% of new opportunities are for hip-hop, and 20% of your catalog is made up of hip-hop, your genre mix is perfect.

3. Keywords and Metadata matching: MusicTrend has a proprietary algorithm that picks up keywords, moods and other descriptors and compares them against open opportunities for "less-obvious" matches.

NOTE: Only the tracks in your catalog that are in an Active/Complete status are used to compile these ratings, since they're actually ready to pitch for opportunities that MusicTrend aggregates.
